Buffy vs Graceling
So the other day in class we watched Buffy, that was I think my first time ever seeing it, and probably my last. I'm not that big on shows that deal with super hero's fighting. It did resemble the book Graceling in many ways. Both of the main characters are young (Katsa younger than Buffy) and don't live the normal teenage/kid life. They both have to go out and protect the ones close to them by killing people/monsters. By them killing others shows they do have some maturity to them, because not a lot of people can truly kill someone just like that. They both just done kill for fun, they kill for a purpose. Katsa kills for the king, and Buffy killed to protect her friends and the other students at the dance. It was different seeing Buffy actually kill people, because in the book Graceling we kind of have to imagine Katsa killing people. This show is defiantly for low teenagers and maybe even some kids. When I was watching it I was like "really that's so fake looking". I really don't feel like Buffy is unhappy with her gift, or at least in the episode we watched it didn't seem that way. It more seemed like she was unhappy because her guy broke up with her right before the dance.

Gracelings
Today My group was the first group to present in the round table discussion. I thought it went good especially for us to be the first group to go. We basically just discussed the book, and what we felt about it. I was kinda surprised because I really didn't understand how we truly had to write discussion questions. I felt like one question will kind of just lead to another question randomly, and it kind of did. I think I over analyzed it for sure. I think people telling Katsa that she's beautiful in the long run will help her self-confidence, but she has to start believing she is first. Every girl has there weak moments where they feel unattractive, but we also have our moments where we feel so beauty. Whether we are wearing our favorite color, favorite or new pair of fly heels. Some girls it only takes make-up for the to feel attractive. I know I feel cuter when I'm all dolled up with make up on and my hair done. I also think people do have an effect on girls and they way they look. Society shows us that girls wearing make up is pretty. Even though now there are adds with girls and their "natural" look, but even that natural look I'm sure they still have some form of make up on their face. They also don't show girls in magazines with sweat pants on and their hair looking all wild. Beauty will also play a role.

Hair 9-16-10
Today in class, or at least the part of it that I got to, we were talking about hair lengths for girls. I was shocked at how many girls actually couldn't cut their hair when they were younger. When I was younger my mom wouldn't let me cut my hair at all, and i think that made me want to cut it even more. At the age of 10 she finally gave in and let me cut it, and when I did my family went nuts! They all loved my long hair, and when I was in middle school I really wanted highlights in my hair. I had to fight with my mom, and had to keep asking her if I could and she always said no to me. Then I finally got her to say yes, and even since then every time I dye my hair my mom always says, "I like your natural dark brown hair". So ever since I was younger up until now my mom has always had something to say, and to this day she always tells me not to cut my hair. So gender and the way girls "are suppose" to look plays a really big role on today society, whereas it doesn't seem that way at all in The Left Hand of Darkness.
