Hair 9-16-10
Today in class, or at least the part of it that I got to, we were talking about hair lengths for girls. I was shocked at how many girls actually couldn't cut their hair when they were younger. When I was younger my mom wouldn't let me cut my hair at all, and i think that made me want to cut it even more. At the age of 10 she finally gave in and let me cut it, and when I did my family went nuts! They all loved my long hair, and when I was in middle school I really wanted highlights in my hair. I had to fight with my mom, and had to keep asking her if I could and she always said no to me. Then I finally got her to say yes, and even since then every time I dye my hair my mom always says, "I like your natural dark brown hair". So ever since I was younger up until now my mom has always had something to say, and to this day she always tells me not to cut my hair. So gender and the way girls "are suppose" to look plays a really big role on today society, whereas it doesn't seem that way at all in The Left Hand of Darkness.

Great point -- this idea definitely shows up in Graceling!
