11-11
Allison was a guest speaker we had today in class. She mainly focused on the movie Startrek, and somewhat introduced it to us (especially the one's who have never seen Startrek before). There's something on Startrek called the board that's suppose to be about alien species that travel around the galaxy. The enterprise persues the board back into time. There's an African American female on there by the name of Lillie, which I guess she was the first to have an interracial kiss. But the show/movie tried to cover it up and that they weren't techniqually in their right mind. Lillies the type of woman that always saves the day. Which to me is kind of different becuase mostly at the ends of movies it's always the male who "saves the day", so I guess in that case Lillie and Ripley have something in common, because Ripley saved the day and everyone who was still alive lives. We also started to have a conversation on asian adoptations. We talked about how asian girls are the main ones being put up for adoption more than the asian boys, but the majority of asian population is male. I thought that was kind of different because in my Geology class we were talkin about how every Asian family wants a boy not a girl, but yet if you only have a couple of boys and more girls you have to have some kind of plan to pregnant them.

Think about the plan to get pregnant when you read The Ship Who Sang-
ReplyDeleteLily was not the person who had the first interracial kiss btw, it was Lt, Uhuru on Star Trek the original series. And it's the Borg not board lol. Easy mistakes to make if you don't know the show and don't hear it right in class!
You are correct though, it's the men who almost always save the day. It's disheartening to me as a woman and a feminist actually. I wish there were more shows and movies and books with truly kick ass females who don't need saving and who get to be the ones who save the day.
